Every weekend at your local movie theater, rabid fans of The Rocky Horror Picture Show dress up in wacky costumes and gather together for a fun night interacting with the movie, the whole thing plays out sort of like a drinking game with queue points for using fun props and talking back at the screen when certain characters speak. Few movies have attained the long term following that this cult classic enjoys. The film is one part musical, one part scifi, and one part horror flick, which adds up to one of the strangest movies you may ever see. The kids from glee paid tribute to the film last season with one show devoted exclusively to Rocky Horror, gleeks would be just the type of people to dress up and really get into The Rocky Horror Picture Show experience. Not everyone is so inclined, some choose to be slightly less active and just participate in the humorous sub-dialogue and props, while the more enthusiastic fans dress up in full costume and act out the movie as it plays using the entire theater as their stage. The womens costumes are over the top!
The Rocky Horror Picture Show movie was based on the British stage show, The Rocky Horror Show, both of which were the brainchild of Richard O’Brien who also portrayed the balding servant “Riff-Raff” in the film. O’Brien also composed all of the original music for the film. The fiercely loyal following is still showing up week after week to pay their respects (or disrespects?) to this cult-classic, which is a remarkable feat considering it’s been over 35 years since the film’s 1975 debut. Words cannot describe the Rocky Horror experience. If you’re prepared to stand in line amongst a bunch of enthusiastic fans with some in crazy adult costumes, Google Rocky Horror midnight showings to find one in your area and see for yourself!
