Easter Bunny Caught Skiing the Slopes as Easter Approaches

It’s Eostar-monath, oops I mean the month of April, and painted eggs and sugary treats are on the menu. Easter owes it’s name to the German Goddess of Fertility and Sunrise Eostur, Ēostur-monath Being the month of April. If you don’t plan on attending church this Easter Sunday, you might consider celebrating in a different fashion by jumping in some fun Easter costumes. Who says a bunny can’t tear up the slopes? This holiday is known for the easter bunny, easter egg hunts, loads of candy, and of course resurrection and rebirth. The Easter Bunny was introduced to America by German settlers in the 18th century. Children would build brightly colored nests out of hats and spare household items, in out of the way areas of their homes in anticipation of the Easter hare coming and filling them with treats, in much the same way Santa Clause did on Christmas. As this tradition expanded, the nest has become the manufactured colorful Easter basket, and the placing of the nest in a secluded area has become the modern easter egg hunt.

The rabbit is a pagan symbol and has always been an emblem of fertility. Have you been looking for the perfect Easter bunny costumes? The Movies Inspire Halloween Costumes for 2011

Well in spite of Hollywood’s new-found interest in the flashy and surprisingly one Dimensional 3D experience, it really was a great year to go out to the movies. With all the visually engaging movies this year who else is looking forward to the Halloween costumes 2011 season? The 83rd Annual Academy Awards were held this year, Anne Hathaway and James Franco opening the show with a blatant acknowledgment of how the Academy aims to stay relevant, Anne complimenting James on how appealing he was to a “younger demographic.” All this after a fantastic opening sequence of the two hosts edited into a slew of this years nominated movies, something that was really enjoyed – demographic target acquired. With Anne hosting, you knew she’d be in a different dress every ten minutes, and she did not disappoint with the costume changes, up until she opened the show from a commercial break in a full tuxedo (with the perfect black heels to match, of course). Were you surprised when James walked out in a pink dress? He made no qualms about the costume change, never taking himself too seriously – wearing a pink dress and blonde wig like he was promoting sexy Halloween costumes, and saying his lines like a team player.

A favorite this year was the Darren Aronofsky gem, Black Swan. You may recall Requiem for a Dream, in which Ellen Burstyn’s portrayal of pill addicted Brooklyn mother “Sara Goldfarb” got her an Oscar nod for best actress in a leading role. Well it looks as though Aronofsky has an eye for talent, and a handmade to mold and shape it, because this year his movie making magic gave Natalie Portman, who played the conflicted ballet dancer “Nina Sayers” the extra push she needed to dazzle onscreen and impress the Academy. Portman can now add Academy Award winner to her already impressive resume.

Black Swan was also nominated for best cinematography, directing, editing, and best picture. No nod for best costume design? A person who respects the role costumes play in the fine art of movie making would appreciate the understated and classy costumes that color the Black Swan. With Alice in Wonderland Costumes Designer Coleen Atwood winning in this category it makes you wonder, must a costume designer always go all out when dressing the cast? Sure, there will be some fun Halloween costumes from that movie, but where’s the beef? The beautiful, subdued nature of the black swan costumes really added a touch of honesty and sincerity to the big screen that is lacking in this years less than stellar nominees for best costume. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Costumes Party for Mardi Gras

A group of 17 girls and one guy from age 17 up to 31 years old from Germany came to HalloweenAndCostumes.com to get geared up with TMNT Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles costumes so they could celebrate Carnival in some really cool costumes for 2012. We hear in the states know this as Mardi Gras. In Germany, Mardi Gras is also known as the fifth and foolish season. It is a time of elaborate parades, masks, balls and the election of the Carnival king and queen and officially sanctioned madness. In some towns there are Carnival Clubs/Associations. These clubs do a show just before Carnival where all the dancing groups, from the little kids up to adults put on a wonderful show to get things started. These groups put on outlandish performances along with funny speeches, awesome dance routines and much more for your enjoyment. This particular group of 17 belongs to one of these Carnival clubs, it is a smaller one that is located in a small town. During Carnival there are public party’s, where everyone dresses up in mardi gras costumes and have tons fun. This group put on there sexy costumes and preformed at various events and while also earning an invitation to participate in the Carnival parade the next day. At the parade they participated in, while lighting up the streets with fun they threw candies to the audience and made sure the Carnival goers had plenty of alcohol. Who would want to miss that fun? Carnival in Germany is not on a fixed date. It’s usually around February and March. This all depends on when Easter is, but it always starts on a Thursday and ends on Wednesday the week after. Saint Patrick’s Day Parade

Here’s a video for some DIY Green Beer, just in time for St. Patrick’s Day which is coming up next week. The New York City Saint Patrick’s Day Parade is celebrating it’s 250th anniversary this year, making it fifteen years older than the USA! It was founded by homesick Irish immigrants who wore green to show solidarity with their Irish countrymen. In Ireland the countries rulers had outlawed the wearing of green, which is why the color is so associated with St. Patrick’s Day and Ireland. If you wish to represent your Irish heritage, make a stand against the monarchy by wearing a green costume on St. Patrick’s Day.

The modern day parade is led by ”the Fighting 69” the National Guards 69th Regiment, these soldiers are followed by the many different Irish societies of NYC, and various schools, colleges and Irish language groups. Today St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated by Irish and non-Irish alike. Americans consume more beer on St Patty’s Day than any other day, the celebration has become an excuse to drink dyed green beer and get into fun costumes, but don’t be caught not wearing green, or you might get a pinch!

The St. Patrick’s Day parade has remained true to it’s origins by not allowing floats, and is exclusively a marching parade. What Irishman wouldn’t feel lucky to attend the St. Patrick’s Day parade with the President of Ireland Mary McAleese! In America we associate Mardi Gras with New Orleans, but this is not the only place that people celebrate. In Brazil they call their pre-lent celebration “Carnival” and it is the countries most famous holiday, Carnival accounts for 80% of Brazil’s annual beer consumption! Originating in Rio de Janeiro and consisting of “Blocos” – troupes of people who dress in costumes with uniting themes, these blocos (blocks) represent specific neighborhoods. In Rio these troupes are also judged on their presentation and costumes, with the best costumed group winning an award.
